Green Tea Mooncake Bath Bombs
The Mid-Autumn festival is one of the most important holidays in Chinese culture which is comparable to that of Chinese New Year. Also known as Mooncake festival, this celebration dates back to almost 3,000 years ago and is held on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month in the Chinese calendar.
On this particular day of the month, the moon is at its brightest and roundest which symbolizes reunion and togetherness in Chinese culture. The celebration includes gathering with family and friends, giving thanks and praying for a good future. Families and children carry lanterns or display them in their homes, and eat mooncakes which is a kind of pastry filled with lotus seed paste.
Traditionally, mooncakes are shaped like the round moon and may contain one or more egg yolks in the center, and is filled with lotus seed paste surrounding it. Today’s mooncakes come in all shapes and sizes, as well as different flavors and colors. Mooncakes are considered as a delicacy and are presented as gifts to families, friends, or business associates. This year, instead of gifting edible mooncakes, why not create a bath bomb mooncake as a form of gift? They are fun and easy to make, and will make wonderful gifts too. In this recipe, we will create Green Tea mooncake bath bombs with a hint of chocolate.
This recipe will yield 3 mooncake bath bombs. Start with the wet ingredients first by melting the butter in the microwave. Allow it to cool before stirring in the Polysorbate 80 and fragrance/essential oils. Let it sit while we move on to the dry ingredients.
In a large bowl, pour in the already sieved baking soda, SLSA together with Citric Acid. Mix them evenly using a spatula, then add in the wet mixture and knead it with your gloved hands until the mixture clumps.
Do take note that the mixture has to clump together when squeezing it in your palm. If it crumbles, spritz some Isopropyl Alcohol or Witch Hazel to it. When you feel that is is ready, you can start molding your bath bombs.
