Potassium Sorbate

Potassium Sorbate is a foodgrade preservative that has been used for decades to preserve food products. It is generally recognized as safe by GRAS. Potassium Sorbate is a salt of sorbic acid which is found naturally in some fruits (like berries of mountain ash), but most Potassium Sorbate is manufactured synthetically and is a nature-identical compound chemically equivalent to the molecule found in nature.

Potassium Sorbate is not a broad spectrum preservative for cosmetic use and should be combined with other preservatives such as Sodium Benzoate to create a a low PH ranging from 2.5 to 4 to control growth or molds, yeasts and bacteria.
